Smoke Detectors
It’s getting cold again. This is the busiest time for Fire Dept.’s to work structure fires. Please check your SMOKE DETECTORS and make sure their working properly. Here are a few tips to make sure. 1st tip: Vacuum the detector to remove lint and dust that’s built up over time. 2nd tip: You should replace the battery every 6 months. 3rd tip: Press the test button once a week to make sure the alert tone is operating correctly. 4th tip: Also here’s one that no one really thinks about. A SMOKE DETECTOR only last for a certain amount of time. Usually 8-10 years. Check the date located on the back of the Detector. If it’s out of date, please replace with a new one. It’s been proven time and time again that “SMOKE DETECTORS SAVES LIVES”. Get one if you don’t already have one and purchase a home Fire Extinguisher.
Please think of your family and you when making this decision. It may be the wisest decision that you have ever made.
When you install the Detector, place it in the hallway near your bedroom. The placement is crucial for when you’re asleep. When the audible tone is activated, it will get your attention more quickly. Timing is very important when you need to evacuate. If you do have a fire and we hope you don’t. Stay low and make your way out of the structure as quickly as possible.
